Este documento apresenta e descreve o trabalho de pesquisa realizado com vistas a estabelecer recomendações destinadas a auxiliar consumidores de serviços de computação em nuvem a tratar a questão dos riscos inerentes a este ambiente, de modo tal a poder contratar serviços desta natureza com grau aceitável de risco. Para atender a este objetivo e aos demais objetivos secundários definidos, o estudo foi conduzido em cinco fases: revisão da literatura relativa à computação em nuvem, escolha e estruturação do método de pesquisa, aplicação do método de pesquisa, proposição das recomendações para o tratamento dos riscos e elaboração das conclusões. A revisão da literatura compreendeu um amplo levantamento bibliográfico sobre computação em nuvem, com ênfase na sua definição, nos modelos de referência e nos tópicos barreiras, benefícios e riscos. A escolha do método de pesquisa envolveu o processo de seleção do Delphi, acompanhado por outro extenso levantamento bibliográfico, desta feita sobre este método, e foi seguida da definição da sistemática a ser adotada para aplicá-lo especificamente nesta pesquisa; para aplicar o Delphi, foi escolhida a modalidade ranking form, por meio da qual se tornou possível determinar...

A Computação em Nuvem (CN) é um dos temas mais abordados por profissionais de TI atualmente. Com um forte apelo econômico, a CN torna possível a ideia da computação como uma utilidade, na qual recursos computacionais (processamento e armazenamento, por exemplo) podem ser consumidos e pagos com a mesma conveniência que a energia elétrica. Com este novo paradigma, uma empresa, ao iniciar suas atividades, não necessita mais investir antecipadamente um alto capital em equipamentos de TI. Os recursos computacionais são adquiridos conforme são necessários e o consumidor paga apenas pelo que utiliza. Esta pesquisa traz uma contribuição para as organizações e para o meio acadêmico, uma vez que analisa a adoção da CN por empresas brasileiras. A pesquisa abrange empresas privadas de diversos portes e setores que tenham adotado pelo menos um serviço de TI no modelo de CN. O modelo de pesquisa foi elaborado com base nos objetivos específicos, os quais se originaram das lacunas existentes sobre o uso de serviços de CN no Brasil. A pesquisa utilizou uma amostra não probabilística contendo 96 casos, os quais contemplaram aspectos do respondente, da organização e do serviço de CN mais importante para a organização. Thermalization in highly excited quantum many-body system does not necessarily mean a complete memory loss of the way the system was formed. This effect may pave a way for a quantum computing, with a large number of qubits n ≈ 100-1000, far beyond the quantum chaos border. One of the manifestations of such a thermalized non-equilibrated matter is revealed by a strong asymmetry around 90° c.m. of evaporating proton yield in the Bi(γ,p) photonuclear reaction. The effect is described in terms of anomalously slow cross symmetry phase relaxation in highly excited quantum many-body systems with exponentially large Hilbert space dimensions. In the above reaction this phase relaxation is about eight orders of magnitude slower than energy relaxation (thermalization).

IU has a proud tradition in open access to its research computing and cyberinfrastructure (CI) facilities, going back to the precedents set by Marshall Wrubel (appointed the first permanent director of the IU Research Computing Center in 1955). Starting in 1997 President Myles Brand and then-Vice President Michael McRobbie initiated a tremendous acceleration in growth of IU???s cyberinfrastructure facilities through developing and then executing the first Indiana University Information Technology Strategic Plan. Through a decade and a half of purposeful execution of excellent strategies in support for research and scholarly activities generally, University Information Technology Services (UITS) has provided exceptional support to a group of researchers. This includes usage from disciplines that are among the traditional users of high performance computing ??? physics, chemistry, and astronomy, as well as emerging areas of application of HPC including biology, business, and the arts.

Cloud computing is an emerging paradigm, which promises to make the utility computing model comprehensively implemented by using virtualization technologies. An increasing number of enterprises have started providing and using Cloud-enabled infrastructures and services. However, the advancement of cloud computing poses several new challenges to existing methods and approaches to develop and evolve software intensive systems. This paper reports our experiences and observations gained from migrating an Open Source Software (OSS), Hackystat, to cloud computing. We expect that our description of Hackystat's architecture prior and after migration and design decisions can provide some guidance about modifying architecture of a service-based system for cloud computing. peer-reviewed; Empirical research studies are the principal mechanism through which the software engineering research community studies and learns from software engineering practice. The focus on empirical studies has increased significantly in the past decade, more or less coinciding with the emergence of evidencebased software engineering, an idea that was proposed in 2004. As a consequence, the software engineering community is familiar with a range of empirical methods. However, while several overviews exist of popular empirical research methods, such as case studies and experiments, we lack a ‘holistic’ view of a more complete spectrum of research methods. Furthermore, while researchers will readily accept that all methods have inherent limitations, methods such as case study are still frequently critiqued for the lack of control that a researcher can exert in such a study, their use of qualitative data, and the limited generalizability that can be achieved. Controlled experiments are seen by many as yielding stronger evidence than case studies, but these can also be criticized due to the limited realism of the context in which they are conducted. We identify a holistic set of research methods and indicate their strengths and weaknesses in relation to various research elements.

Cloud computing is an evolving utility computing mechanism in which cloud consumer can detect, choose and utilize the resources (infrastructure, software and platform) and provide service to user based on pay per use model as computing utilities. Current computing mechanism is effective, particular for medium and small cloud based companies, in which it permits easy and reliable access to cloud services like infrastructure, software and platform. Present cloud computing is almost similar to the existing models: cluster computing and grid computing. The important key technical features of cloud computing which includes autonomic service, rapid elasticity, end-to-end virtualization support, on-demand resource pooling and transparency in cloud billing. Further, non-technical features of cloud computing includes environment friendliness, little maintenance overhead, lower upfront costs, faster time to deployments, Service Level Agreement (SLA) and pay-as-you-go-model. In distributed computing environment, unpredictability of service is a fact, so same possible in cloud also. The success of next-generation Cloud Computing infrastructures will depend on how capably these infrastructures will discover and dynamically tolerate computing platforms...

Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) which combines mobile computing and cloud computing, has become one of the industry buzz words and a major discussion thread in the IT world since 2009. As MCC is still at the early stage of development, it is necessary to grasp a thorough understanding of the technology in order to point out the direction of future research. With the latter aim, this paper presents a review on the background and principle of MCC, characteristics, recent research work, and future research trends. Cloud computing represents a shift away from computing as a product that is purchased, to computing as a service that is delivered to consumers over the internet from large-scale data centers - or "clouds". This paper discusses some of the research challenges for cloud computing from an enterprise or organizational perspective, and puts them in context by reviewing the existing body of literature in cloud computing. Various research challenges relating to the following topics are discussed: the organizational changes brought about by cloud computing; the economic and organizational implications of its utility billing model; the security, legal and privacy issues that cloud computing raises. It is important to highlight these research challenges because cloud computing is not simply about a technological improvement of data centers but a fundamental change in how IT is provisioned and used.
